Joe Colombo was a mass production industrial designer. He experimented new materials and advanced production technologies to create entire living cells, habitats of the future. Rather than simply modernizing existing types of furniture, Colombo was intent on reinventing them as new concepts which would be better suited to a mobile. He was more concerned with establishing a continuity of perception and exploiting the environment to the full than with producing individual objects of high quality. (source)
