Cineteca Matadero Madrid








On Tuesday before taking my plane back to London I flicked through the last issue from Tectonica magazine. On its cover it is featured the project by Churtichaga + Quadra-Salcedo, a new screening room, multidisciplinary space and movie library for Matadero Madrid. The intervention on the building seems quite simple but far away from a ordinary refurbishment the new Cineteca has a complex concrete structure in order to maintain the original space from the ancient factory where Matadero Madrid is based intact. 

The result is an elegant exercice of materials and creativity. The black floors and skirting contrast with the brick walls. But mostly I got impressed by the wicker surround that forms the screening room ceiling, the stairs, etc. This simple but original detail combined with the lighting creates an spectacular
